Candra & The Sheriff: Juli 2011

The idea for this post started a few days ago when i stumbled across a couple of Daniel Higgs solo albums in the promo bin at work. I was honestly surprised by the response my post of his Ancestral Songs LP had recieved. While Daniel Higgs may not be a name on the lips of most, he does have a rabid fan base who hold close to his brand of storytelling and art.
From what I know, Dan first made his appearance in the band Reptile House during the revolution summer . In their short-lived career they managed to release a 7" on Dischord and an LP on Merkin before disbanding in '86.
From the ashes of Reptile House, Lungfish emerged in 1987 releasing the Necklace of Heads 12" on Simple Machines. Almost immediately thereafter they found their permanent home at Dischord, where for the next twenty years Dan and company would create music that was challenging and thought-provoking. The most prolific of any Dischord band,

Lungfish recorded ten full length LPs for the label before going on "hiatus" (what is it with the DC bands on hiatus, just admit the band has played its course and is done. we'll be fine with it. it's not like it's the first time a hardcore band broke up. this means you too Fugazi.) in 2006.
In the time since the pause in the Lungfish journey Dan has been pursuing a solo career, often taking to just a banjo and a jaw harp, and setting about to make his newest masterpiece, as well as a continued partnership with longtime musical/artistic compatriot Asa Osbourne in The Pupils. Most recently he has been gathering notoriety for his artwork, travelling in an almost endless fashion from gallery to gallery to show his craft to his adoring public.
